UVSE Update - March 2010
We are delighted to announce that the Class of 1982 has awarded its third Upper Valley Social Entrepreneurship grant to Yang Wei Neo '12.
Yang Wei will be working closely with the exective director of the Good Neighbor Health Clinic's Red Logan Free Dental Clinic to assess issues of capacity, patient criteria and potential restructuring to bring in revenue to support more patients. Oral health care is one of the very top unmet needs in the Upper Valley. The Red Logan clinic typically has a waiting list of over 400. Part of Yang Wei's project time will be spent in assessment and problem analysis and the rest will be spent in constructing ways to meet the need through reorganization, new business modeling and new methods for volunteer dentist recruitment.
While Yang Wei is currently a sophomore, he is somewhat older than other students in the class of 2012 . He is a citizen of Singapore, and as such spent two mandatory years in the Singapore Navy, where, among other things, he managed operations and logistics at a medical center. He has work experience across large corporations, government bodies and non-profits and comes to Dartmouth as a scholarship student who is very disciplined, very business-savvy and extremely eager to exercise his civic engagement values. Last summer, he was a Paganucci Fellow at the Tuck School of Business, where he worked on a non-profit consulting assignment with ACCION International, a global microfinance organization. We are very happy to have him at work in the Fellowship, starting spring term.
